A Garden Sideboard?

Writer's picture: SimonSimon

Some friends in our village set me a challenge to create an outdoor piece of furniture for their garden a short while ago. Some online photos were shared followed by a long list of return questions from me to establish the dimensions, colours, finishes, etc.

The item required a fair amount of pallet wood and often the trickiest task was finding boards of similar thicknesses. I also chose to paint and protect the wood as I built, slowing progress but making sure it was ready to face the elements as much as possible. The top was finished with contrasting bare boards and a mix of different nails that will oxidise and transform as the wood mellows.

Now delivered, the piece is ready to be fitted with drawer knobs, some hooks and various other garden accessories that its owners have or plan to find.

The hardest part of the challenge, knowing what to call it! Is it a potting table? Or a garden organiser? Or even a garden sideboard? I'm sticking with the latter but it'll no doubt find its rightful name as it gets put to use.
